Project co-ordinator for the In the Naturalists’ Footsteps series, António Carmo Gouveia is Director of the Botanical Garden at the University of Coimbra and a UNESCO Chair in Biodiversity and Conservation for Sustainable Development associate researcher. He is a research fellow in the Functional Ecology Center of the Life Sciences Department in the Sciences and Technology School of the University of Coimbra. With a PhD in Biology and specialization in Ecology from the University of Coimbra, his research interests include the history of science (history of botany, scientific knowledge networks, colonial science), the diversity and ecology of plants (invasive species, tropical ecosystems) and science communication.
